Dim lights flickered above, providing what little light there was. There was a still silence. The gray walls loomed up to support this hallway. Doors were spaced evenly along one side of the hallway. One the other, there were blue lockers that didn't seem to end. Shadows stood against these walls and lay on the floor. Nothing moved. Not a thing was out of place nor was there even the tiniest bit of paint that had chipped off with time. Everything was perfect, too perfect. Ring! The sound of a bell broke the silence. All along the hall, doors opened and the children contained in them spilled out. The once still hallway now swarmed with children. But the only sound was the tapping of shoes on the perfect white tiles. Words were hardly spoken and the ones that were spoken were whispered quietly. Almost fearfully. There were kids of all ages in this hallway. Kids of all back rounds and races. There were kids with blond hair and brown hair, blue eyes and brown eyes, freckles and no freckles, and kids of all different skin colors. The only thing they all had in common were the uniforms. Everyone wore the same uniform as everyone else. There was one person who stood out more than the others. With her orange hair and amber eyes, Anika easily stood out of a crowd. Her fingertips looked like they had been sewed on to the rest of her fingers. Even though she wore the same uniform that everyone else did. Anika walked with the crowd. Her mind was thinking of what her next class was. Her shoes made the steady tip tap that everyone else's made. Wherever she went, she got strange looks. To them, she was 'the girl with the strange orange hair' or 'the girl with amber eyes', or even, 'the girl who got experimented on and survived'. It didn't matter what they thought of her, she was 'different' and it was best to just avoid her and never talk to her. For a girl who was very talkative and had lots of friends, this was hard. Anika was lonely. She tried to make friends but whenever she tried to talk to someone, they would make an excuse and leave. They would pretend that they had to be elsewhere. Anika knew that they didn't though and it didn't help her feel any better. Still, it didn't stop her from trying. Anika walked forward, her eyes locked on the floor. She didn't want to face the stares today. She wished that they would just leave her alone. She wished that they would accept her. Anika also wasn't paying attention to where she was walking. She knew where her next class was speed walking to get there. She let her feet lead her to where she was going next. Wham! Suddenly Anika had hit something. She was falling and then her bottom slammed into the ground. The kids walking by moved to avoid her. She looked up. What did I hit? Anika thought to herself as she stood up. In front of her was another student. This student was also on the ground. Anika realized what had happened instantly. "A-are you okay?!" Anika stuttered as she ran to this student. "I'm really sorry! I wasn't paying any attention." She said. "My name is Anika by the way. What's yours?" Anika held out her hand to help the kid up. Around them, nothing had changed. The other students walked by, shooting sideways looks at them. It was almost like they didn't want anyone to know they were watching. words; 794 ooc; for wolfstar; enjoy credit NIK@ansrc [/style] |
